Is income generated from selling musical instruments haram?

Q: I have a question re income generated from selling musical instruments. In my ‘pre-practising’ days I had purchased musical equipment such as keyboards and subwoofers. The money used to purchase these back then was Halal. If I did now sell these, is the money I make still deemed as Halal? And if for some reason I made more than I had originally bought it for, would I consider the ‘profit’ as Haram?

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومنه الصدق والصواب

A: It is makruh to sell instruments that are used only for what is unlawful such as a musical keyboard.  The proceeds, both principal and profit if any, of such are also unlawful.  It is permissible to sell instruments that can be used for both lawful and unlawful practices such a subwoofer.  The proceeds too, both principal and profit if any,  are lawful.
