Q: Is it permissible to give Sadaqah from your child benefit money or is the permission of the child required?

A: Child benefit is a payment to and the property of the parent with parental responsibility. Whilst it is intended and indeed expected that the parent will use the money wisely the money ultimately belongs to the parent. Therefore, such money may be given as sadaqah to an orphan appeal. Any property belonging to a minor cannot be given as Sadaqah even with the permission of the minor. The minor’s permission is of no consequence.
