Is it permissible to do an Accountant’s letter for a client if it helps with his mortgage application?

Q: Is it permissible to do an Accountant’s letter for a client if it helps with his mortgage application? Please answer for both conventional and ‘Islamic’ mortgages.

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما ومنه الصدق والصواب

A: If the letter or accounts are of a generic nature that simply state
the financial position of the client then it is not prohibited
to produce such letter or accounts. However, if the letter or accounts are bespoke
to an application or an interest based mortgage then it is not permitted
to produce such letter or accounts. If the intended mortgage
is truly sharia-compliant then it is permitted.
