Is comprehensive car insurance permitted or should third party insurance only be taken?

Q: Is comprehensive car insurance permitted or should third party insurance only be taken?

الجواب حامدًا و مصليًا و منه الصدق و الصواب

A: In the case that only conventional insurance is available, if the requirements of the law are met by third party only insurance and this incurs less cost in payable premiums than other levels of cover then it is not permitted to take out other levels of cover. However, if third party only cover incurs more cost in payable premiums than third party fire and theft or fully comprehensive cover, as sometimes the case can strangely be, or if insurers are unwilling to issue third party only cover, as tends to be the case with new cars, then one may take out a higher level of cover.
