Can you work for a music radio station?

Q: I’ve recently started a job with a company involved in the radio industry, they mainly play music. I work as a developer, on their back end systems, such as reporting what songs were played and when, etc and also on an iPhone application that lets people choose songs they want to listen to. Could you please advice on the lawfulness of this position.

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما ومنه الصدق والصواب

A: The information provided is too little to give a general opinion about your role. Nevertheless, reporting on which songs have been played or calculating the amount a song’s owner must receive, is not a sinful act in itself. However developing an application usable only for haram purposes such as listening to music is not permissible and will be considered as assisting in sin.
